Privacy Policy
Effective 10 October 2026
Pare (“the app”) is published by Mareks Reppo, an individual developer in Latvia (“I”, “me”). This policy explains what the app does with your data. The short version: nothing leaves your device unless you choose to send me a report, and I don’t collect personal data.
Your photos
Pare asks for access to your Photos library so it can find similar photos. All analysis (image similarity, quality scoring) runs on your device using Apple’s frameworks. Photos, thumbnails, image analysis results and photo metadata are never uploaded to me or to anyone else, except in a group report you choose to send (below).
Pare stores its analysis cache on your device only. Photos you mark are added to a “Marked for removal” album in your Photos library, which syncs through iCloud Photos if you use it. Photos are only deleted when you confirm in Apple’s system prompt.
Group reports you choose to send
When you tell Pare that a group is “Not Similar” or “Looks Right”, it can prepare an email to pare@reppo.app. Nothing is sent unless you tap Send in your mail app, and you can edit or delete the email before that.
A report contains how Pare compared the photos in that group: similarity scores, colour and face-position differences, how many people each photo shows, the time between the photos, an identifier for each photo that means nothing outside your device, the grouping thresholds in use, your device model, operating system version and app version. Only if “Include photos” is on does it also contain small copies (512 pixels) of the photos in that group. It is off by default in the App Store version and on by default in TestFlight beta builds; you can switch it off before sending. Because the report is an email from your own mail account, I also receive your email address, as with any email.
I use reports only to improve how Pare groups photos. I don’t link them with any other data about you, don’t share them with anyone and delete them when they are no longer needed for that, or sooner if you ask. My legal basis is your consent (GDPR Art. 6(1)(a)), which you give by sending each report; you can withdraw it and ask me to delete a report at any time.
Free-plan usage counters
To apply the free-plan limits, Pare counts how many scans you have run. The counters are stored in your own iCloud account (iCloud key-value storage and iCloud Keychain) so they follow your Apple Account across your devices. I cannot read them.
Purchases
Subscriptions and the lifetime purchase are handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. I don’t receive your name, email or payment details. The app checks your purchase status with Apple on your device.
Crash reports
If the app crashes or hits an error, it may send a diagnostic report to Sentry (Functional Software, Inc.), the crash-reporting service I use. A report contains technical information only: the error and stack trace, app version, device model, operating system version and a random identifier for the app installation. It does not contain photos, photo metadata, your name, email or Apple Account. Reports are processed on Sentry’s servers in the United States and are used only to find and fix bugs. My legal basis is legitimate interest in keeping the app working (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)).
No tracking
Pare has no advertising, no analytics SDKs and does not track you across apps or websites.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you can ask for access to, correction or deletion of personal data I hold about you, and you can object to processing. Apart from reports you have emailed me, I don’t hold data that identifies you, so there is usually nothing to return or delete, but you can always contact me at pare@reppo.app. You can also complain to the Latvian Data State Inspectorate (Datu valsts inspekcija).
Children
Pare is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect data from anyone.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new effective date.
